Your Future Self

Just moments ago, I was perusing TechCrunch.com and found a little morsel of goodness. If you’ve ever wanted to send yourself a simple reminder in the future, check out FutureMe.org. Often, as we live in the world of digg and Slashdot, I get linked to sites that have either buckled under the effects or are running a low-bandwidth version of the site. If I am really excited about the link, I’m pretty upset by this. Typically, I’d just drop a bookmark into my ‘Temp’ bookmarks folder (in my Bookmark’s Toolbar), but then I end up with a really big Temp folder and no reminder as to when to return to it.Enter check out FutureMe.org. This simple site allows you to write an e-mail to your future self (at a desired future date). This way, you’ll be reminded to view the site as well as given ample space to explain why you wanted to go there. Tasty.

Enjoying Opera.

In much the same way that I struggle to understand how some people can revel in the experience they get whilst enduring a live, loud opera, I have no idea how users of the Opera web browser could be so bold as to say it’s better than Firefox.I’ll give credit where it’s due: Yes, Opera 9 is faster than Firefox in respect to handling Javascript and general page-viewing. However, if the data wasn’t there to prove it, I just couldn’t believe it is true.Recently, Tyler let me know that he had tried out Opera for a brief time and wasn’t too pleased. I had a similar experience, but back in Opera 8.5. I had heard such great things about the 9th version, that I figured it would have been amazingly different. I was wrong. It’s true that I only gave Opera a 24 hours chance, but I was planning to use it for the rest of the week – but it’s just too much work to keep using it.As soon as I had it installed, I popped it open and started surfing. The first thing I did was come here and write my last ent

Disneyland for a Honeymoon

Update: At the end, when I say Kara and I would be willing to go to Disneyland if anyone wants to take us, that means anyone (short of kidnappers, murderers, rapists, terrorists or any other nefarious types) – not just you, Mom.As promised, I wanted to boast about my superb honeymoon in Disneyland. Many know of Disneyland as the Happiest Place on Earth, and now, if you were paying attention, I certainly do.I had given quite a lot of thought to my honeymoon even before I had met Kara. Originally, I had it planned during the winter, as you may read here from my December 2002 writing:For our honeymoon I’d like to get a secluded cabin in the shadow of Mt. Rainer. Just a small log cabin, surrounded by towering evergreens and freshly planted saplings. A fresh layer of snow resting on the ground, with a slow fall gently passing in front of the window. A small, but warm fire burning in the fireplace. You and I sitting on a soft blanket, a few candles lit and the crackle of the fire the only so

Long lost Journal (part 1)

Recently, I went to the wedding of a friend of mine and had a delightful time. Once it was over, I had this weird feeling that I couldn’t shake. Finally, just earlier tonight, I powered on my backup hard drive and did a search for anything I had relating to this friend’s name. Magically (like computers are) I was shown an old, old friend of mine: my journal. Now, you should understand that this journal is truly sad in comparison to other journals. In total it is only 5 pages with 14 entries, but they’re… rich!I’ve read through them all, once again, and will be choosing a select few to show here. The reason, you may ask, for me posting them here is that they offer a glimpse into what I was like that many, many people did not know about. Even if you knew me then, these entries might show you something new or explain something about the ‘me’ I may have been hiding then. Honestly, the raw emotion I put into these was even lost in my memory until I re-read them. The first is rather short,

Peter Wooley v2.0 Logo

This quarter, my Mondays are one of my freest days all week. I tend to get work done that I need to get done, but I also tend to waste some of that free time by catching up on Wife- and Internet-related things. As I was perusing through digg.com, I ran across a “Fake Picture Generators” post. While the site proved awfully slow and fairly unoriginal, I kept skimming through the comments. Near the bottom, I hit a treasure trove of excitement. I was giddy as I looked through tons of links to image generators from college diplomas to fortune cookie messages. Then, I found what has to be my favorite of all, the Web 2.0 Logo Creatr. Below, you can see the glory that this baby can produce, complete with reflection and a beta tag.
