To be taught.

To be taught, to truly be given knowledge and keep it stored in the recesses of my mind is an awfully hard goal for anyone. Anyone who knows me could tell you that I love learning – anything, but it takes a special teacher to truly change the way I view what I’m passionate about. As I’ve attended the Art Institute of Portland, I’ve gotten to know quite a few teachers, some of which I didn’t like, most of which I really could have done without, but there was one who I was always excited to learn from – and teach, if I could manage to show him something he didn’t all ready know. And the best part was, he was willing to not only teach me, but to listen to the crazy ramblings of a standards-crazed, semantically-strict, backwards-underlining kid.Through the hustle and bustle of the day, I finally found that this teacher will be leaving the Art Institute of Portland – for the most part – and moving on to bigger and better things. I would love for him to know that he will be sorely missed and

My Life as a Husband

Wonderful, that’s what married life has been (and is, and will be, mind you). As many people will tell, Kara’s and my wedding was a whirlwind of activity. I was told by a friend that I wouldn’t remember a single thing, so I tried at certain points to try remembering it. Well, it turned out, I remembered those images, but they are still images in my mind, no video and no audio. I suppose it’s good that I remembered something, but the points I have in my mind aren’t all cinematic or even poetic. I do have the image of Kara walking down the aisle (all right, that’s in video – and color!), but I have other images like the door outside the sanctuary as I was about to go inside, Christian playing Pool, Matt not playing pool and the stairs up from the basement. I also remember being upset about things not going the way I wanted them to, but that was bound to happen, if you know me at all.I’ve been putting off writing this particular post as everyday something new happens and it just adds to h

Why I needed AIPD

All right, folks, I’ve recently discovered why it was that I needed to go to the Art Institute of Portland. Most of you have seen my early work, but I was astounded to find out that my last piece of work from High School is still accessible via the High School website. And the best part is, they’ve not changed it a bit. In fact, they even left my “showcase” items up. That’s right, now you can watch my highly rated animation called “Mr. Lamp”.And, as I know many of you will, take a look at the source. What is that you see, it’s Tables, baby! Notice, however that I had begun using stylesheets – and I still use the same naming convention! (standard.css)Also, if you’ve been going to AIPD for very long, you may have known the work of Rex Hill, and his earlier work should be published. And another, if you venture back to the BGHS Home page, you’ll notice the earlier of work of Tommy Holczer. He comped and cut up the design, and I actually maintained it during the next year. To be honest, it’s

A little too tired…

I’m currently in class, waiting for a guest speaker to arrive and I was hungry for some new content. I went through and checked my open Tabs in Firefox. I tabbed to a Production Forum and refreshed it, no luck; I tabbed to my Gmail inbox, no luck; and then, I tabbed to my own blog and refreshed, obviously, I had no luck.I was literally interested to see if I had written anything new since I last checked. Perhaps I need some more sleep…
