Blocking a Series of Tubes

Over at TechCrunch, they’ve recently posted that the US House has passed a bill which will require libraries and schools to block many social sites, or, rather, any sites which allow “communication among users.” I believe that they’ll find that will require a lot more than they are bargaining for.I was thinking, recently, of adding a commenting system to this b; but, if I did that, would I be in violation of this new possible law? I understand that the Politicians aim is to keeps kids out of harm’s way, but I’m not sure that writing a vague resolution that will “protect minors from commercial social networking websites.” An amazing amount of knowledge can be gained from the viral spread of knowledge online, could there not be another way of keeping kids safe?A new project I have become aware of, but must not name will involve the spreading of information between children around the world for use on such direct things as school reports, general location information and all sort of other things. Granted, the Interface looks better than MySpace and the back-end looks like it could handle that spread of information, but it will still rely on children and young adults “[communicating] among users.” I have to wonder if our representation in Washington is actually even using the Internet, or just dialing into AOL and playing around in the series of tubes.
