Life without Air Conditioning

Ever since I was 2 years old, I’ve lived in a home with air conditioning. Except for a few faint memories, my mind cannot recall what it was like to live without that wonderful cool, dry air. Granted, some nights I spent with friends to who were without said luxury, but those were few and far between – and I was always able to look forward to the 68° F temperature (+/- 3°) at home.Well, since I’ve been married, I’ve lived nearly a month (not including the honeymoon) in an air condition-less apartment with my fantastic wife. Recently, as many of you know, the temperature crept up to 105°. I can tell you, I’ve never wanted to drive to a store and throw a wad of cash at a Lowe’s employee more than I did as I laid with four fans strategically placed to hit Kara and me as we attempted to sleep in the 78° night. We ended up making it through, and right now, there is only one fan running as I lay in bed, typing on my PowerBook with Kara sleeping next to me. Master of the PS1

This just in: Peter Wooley gains true understanding of his Playstation. As many of you know, I enjoy Final Fantasty. I’ve been playing through Final Fantasty VIII (again) on my PS1 (thanks for letting me steal that AJ). I’d played nearly to the end on the PC version, but now that I have the PS1, doing it the “real” way seemed like fun.The discs I stole (read: were given) had been used often by my cousin, so there are a few scratches. I also learned that near the end of disc one, a movie stops and cannot be restarted, therefore screwing the entire game up and ruining all those hours (7.5 for me, current) of hard work.Well, tonight, Kara is out with her family scrapbooking, so I wanted to use this time to relax, eat and assasinate the Sorceress Edea. I was just getting to that battle when, all of the sudden, a movie just stopped right in the middle of itself.I suddenly remembered that this was going to happen and had no idea what to do. First, I cleaned the disc, then made my way back fro

Blocking a Series of Tubes

Over at TechCrunch, they’ve recently posted that the US House has passed a bill which will require libraries and schools to block many social sites, or, rather, any sites which allow “communication among users.” I believe that they’ll find that will require a lot more than they are bargaining for.I was thinking, recently, of adding a commenting system to this b; but, if I did that, would I be in violation of this new possible law? I understand that the Politicians aim is to keeps kids out of harm’s way, but I’m not sure that writing a vague resolution that will “protect minors from commercial social networking websites.” An amazing amount of knowledge can be gained from the viral spread of knowledge online, could there not be another way of keeping kids safe?A new project I have become aware of, but must not name will involve the spreading of information between children around the world for use on such direct things as school reports, general location information and all sort of other things. Granted, the Interface looks better than MySpace and the back-end looks like it could handle that spread of information, but it will still rely on children and young adults “[communicating] among users.” I have to wonder if our representation in Washington is actually even using the Internet, or just dialing into AOL and playing around in the series of tubes.

Just moments ago, I reached into my pocket, expecting to grab my 1gb Flash drive to transfer some school files over to my back-up hard drive. Alas, there now lies no such flash drive. At some point, during my wedding, honeymoon or move, I lost that little thing.I doubt I’ll ever see it again, but if anyone does come across it, and you that I’m thinking of would know what it looks like, please let me know. Thanks!
